FOF MENTORSHIP PROGRAM: Week 2 Review (Case Study)

A Case Study Review

For this week's task, we were asked to review a case study (https://uxdesign.cc/the-new-york-times-timely-app-concept-27efe88e5d4b) and note down key points.

The article presents a conceptual redesign of The New York Times mobile app with a focus on providing a more user-centric and engaging experience and also it emphasizes improving the overall user experience by simplifying navigation, reducing clutter, and enhancing readability. The goal is to make it easier for users to access and consume news content.

I also took note of the designer thinking process which includes:

1. Problems and concepts

  1. Audience and needs
  1. Empathy and Sketches
  1. Wireframes and design critics

  2. Visual Design and Storytelling

  3. Prototype

The redesign follows a design thinking approach, which prioritizes understanding user needs and designing solutions that address those needs effectively. It highlights visual design enhancements, including a cleaner and more modern interface, better use of typography, and improved use of images and graphics. The goal of the redesign is to increase user engagement and retention by providing a more compelling and user-friendly news consumption experience.

Gathering user feedback and continuously iterating on the design to ensure it meets the evolving needs and preferences of readers are of key importance in every design.
